Niedobór żelaza jest jednym z najpowszechniej występujących na świecie niedoborów żywieniowych o potencjalnie groźnych następstwach. W artykule podsumowano aktualne stanowiska Komitetu Żywienia European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), Komitetu Żywienia American Academy of Pediatrics oraz Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dotyczące roli żelaza w żywieniu niemowląt, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zaleceń jak zapobiegać niedoborowi żelaza.
